Why choose
Island Healthcare?

A family-run company with family values at our core, we have over twenty years of experience providing exceptional care to people on the Isle of Wight.

We take pride in having built our service through local reputation and consistently delivering high levels of care.

What sets us apart? We treat our staff and clients like family, train our staff to a very high level, and provide the widest range of care among all the providers on the island.

Personalised care plans

Each new client at Island Healthcare receives a strengths-based assessment. We then tailor the support they receive to that plan.

Our team regularly reviews and updates these plans. They are then available to staff at the point of care via handheld tablets.

We always do our best to treat clients in the unique way that suits them and their needs. It aligns with our wider vision of treating those in our care like family.

Fully regulated service

All our care is fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means that we are regularly audited by independent inspectors to ensure we comply with important regulatory standards.

Additionally, our carers are all vetted during a recruitment process that complies with CQC regulations. The training they then receive meets a nationally recognised standard.

Compassionate and experienced staff

All our staff are exceptionally well-trained. To recognise the value we place on training, we pay all our staff for the training they do, whether at home or face-to-face.

Each carer receives:

  • Training fundamentals, starting with two core courses: twelve hours dedicated to dementia and six hours to safeguarding.

  • Enhanced dementia training with Dr Gemma Jones, a highly respected authority in the field.

  • Access to in-house restrictive intervention trainers.

  • A comprehensive induction programme with an in-house mentor. Only once they are deemed competent and confident in dealing with clients are they signed off.

Comprehensive services

Unlike most of our competitors, we’re able to provide the whole spectrum of care services. This ranges from care in your own home, respite and daycare services, to residential and complex nursing care.

So, as your needs change, we can change with you. As a result, you can stay with one provider for your whole care journey. This also maximises continuity of care and reduces the stress of being in the care system.

Continuity of care

By recognising the valuable work our team does and ensuring they are treated fairly, we maintain high staffing levels.

We keep employee turnover to a minimum (20% over the previous year, less than the industry average locally and nationally), meaning they have the time and space to build these relationships.

Safety and security

We provide comprehensive safeguarding training, face-to-face, based on our own and local policies.

All carers go through an enhanced DBS check. We also request references from all previous employment.

Transparent communication

We pride ourselves on being open and honest with people using our services, their families, and friends.

Through our electronic care planning system, we provide friends and family as much or as little access to their loved one's care plan as they’d like. You can keep track of every medicine, meal, or trip out!

Client satisfaction

We have a comprehensive quality assurance feedback form issued every six months to all our clients and their families.

In the last survey, over 90% of people who responded would recommend Island Healthcare to a family member or friend.
